Thats a start, but there's much, MUCH more to consider for a website. Design, colors, navigation, branding, consistency... the list is endless.

DMOZ is harder to get into than the U.S. mint. The rules and regulations for that site have become increasingly ridiculous. You're much better off swapping links with other sites, or simply just submitting to other web directories.

You may have a site that is not getting target level visitors. In this situation you may take many steps to get target level visitors to you site. Your site may not be accurately optimized so you should follow some SEO tips to get enough visitor cause most of the traffic comes through search engines if search engine does not like your site then how could expect enough traffic. You may submit your site to many directories specially in DMOZ and to search engines. Your site have enough content that can enforce your visiters to turn back to your site and make then a regular visitor. You site should be updated frequently to get old visitor back.

If you are interested to develop a website then you must have a specific terget for which purpose you are going to develop it. Suppose you are going to develop it for your company then you should collect sufficiant information that should be convayed to the customers or visitor. You should emphasize on your product and services thats makes you company unique. Similerly you can develop a site for you super store, Schools, Training centers, Service centers etc.

I wouldnt invest in this idea at all. The whole "pay me a lot of money for putting a link to your site" fad is dying, rather, its dead. I would much rather spend the $20-50 on Google Adwords or something like that.

Your right, it is basically the million dollar pixel idea, except without the images. Personally, I wouldnt pay for it. I mean by the time you get to #1, you'd be paying $1750? For a link? But hey, if people are desperate enough to pay for it, more power to them. I would personally invest my money in an established site.

This is a cool idea (www.linkcountdown.com) - basically like the million dollar homepage, but with textlinks that help with SEO. Prices started at $1 and increases a dollar every link, so you want to get in while its cheap. The last links will cost towards $1000, but its around $30 now I think. They give away prices as well.

Actually, site: shows you the amount of links your site has in the search engine. Link popularity can be found if you type link:yoursite.com. That shows you the amount of people that link your site, i.e. how popular your site is. You can also use related: to find out how many sites listed are related to yours, i.e. your competition.
