"Easy" is all relative to how much you know about web servers. And it also depends on whether you want to setup a server for Microsoft based applications (asp), Java (jsp) or php. PHP is the easiest to setup.

There are 2 main aspects that affect how a website ranks on the search engines. One is the text content found on the site and the other are the links pointing to the site.

While you can easily add and change the content on your site it is much more difficult, but not impossible, to increase the links to your site.

The process of link building is where you actively search out sites to link to your own. This can be done in a variety of ways.

First, you can begin by looking at who links to your competitors. If you know who your online competitors are, this can be easy. Simply go to a search engine (like Google) and type "link:domain.com" into the search box, replacing domain with the domain name of your competitor. You will want to do this query on all the primary engines (Yahoo and MSN, as well as google) as each engine looks at links differently.

Once you have this list, you can begin going through it, seeing if there are sites which you can requests links from.

Ideally you will want text links. These are links where the hyperlink of the site is on an important phrase. For example, if you sell medical supplies then one of the terms you'd want the link to be on is "medical supplies".

Then contact these webmasters and ask them to link to you. To help increase your chances of getting a link you should be willing to offer the link text you'd like to see (as explained above) as well as a brief description of your site. You should even specify which page you think the link should appear on. All this helps reduce the amount of effort the webmaster has to put into posting your link, increasing the chance of getting that link.

Another way to get links is look for industry specific directories. Again, using the medical supply example, search for "medical supply directory" "medical supply submit link" "medical supply addurl" and other terms you think a directory might use. Be sure to use an important phrase. You can also use more than one phrase, so once you've exhausted the "medical supply" phrases, look at other phrases.

Finally is to just write good content that will encourage others to link to you. This is sometimes more difficult, but could be much more rewarding as the links come to you, instead of you having to search them out.

One final note, don't stop link building. It has to be an ongoing process. Also don't be discouraged if you don't see immediate results. Keep in mind that the engines update on different schedules and using different criteria. you will likely find that Google takes much longer to update your inbound link count and not every link you got will show up.

But if you keep it up you will see results.

Monster post man! You can never have enough links to stock photography. Although I usually just use the Yahoo/Google images option to find what I'm looking for. But as far as getting professional images, these links are great.

Linux systems are also more secure, I prefer them as my web server (and use it on my laptop ). If you're just in it for web design/development, Linux is a good server to get started on. For major web applications, you may want to consider a Windows based server.

You should also be careful who you're purchasing from. A friend of mine got his domain very cheap a few years ago, thought he got a great deal, but the company disappeared a few months later, along with his domain. He could'nt update the nameservers and had to transfer his domain (at an added cost) to anther domain registrar. Research research research.

Two good company's to look at for cheap domain prices are www.godaddy.com and www.1and1.com . I have used both in my years of web design, both are very good, easy to use/manage.

To have your own website you must have a unique domain name. Thousand of domain name is being reserved everyday. So you may not get your desired domain name free that usually occurs. In case of such situation you have to choose the alternate domain name nearly relevant to you fist choice. you may use "-" between two words. Or there are many extension such as .net,.info etc available you may choose the best one that suits you best. There are many site online that provide that provide free domain name if you purchase hosting from them and offers many special offer. You may also visit their services and then take final decision.

At the time of purchasing a hosting as first you have to choose the platform of the hosting like Windows and Linux. Generally Linux Hosting is far cheaper then Windows. but this is completely dependent on your website development if your site is built using ASP then you have to choose windows server and using PHP then you have to choose Linux server. Many windows server supports Linux also for this you have to read their manual or package includes.
